The pair portrays Judas Iscariot and Jesus Christ, respectively, in the ambitious biblical epic, which hits U.S. TV screens on Palm Sunday (20Mar16), and project musical director Adam Anders admits he knew exactly who should portray Judas and what his signature tune should be as soon as he started casting talent.

"Chris Daughtry was my first choice for Judas from day one," Anders says. "I just couldn’t think of anybody better to sing that (song) live."

And the singer was thrilled to get the chance to record one of his favourite songs.

"It is fun to sing songs that you respect and love," he explains. "That never really changes when you become a songwriter."

Anders is thrilled with the finished result of the song, which will appear on the soundtrack for the live event, adding, "He (Daughtry) can really go for it. You feel that bitterness and anger and those emotions you were expecting were happening with Judas."

Daughtry and Canela have joined a cast that also includes Prince Royce, Tyler Perry, Trisha Yearwood, and Seal. The Passion will follow the final days of Christ and will be staged through the streets of New Orleans, Louisiana.
