OSCAR winner Chris Cooper refuses to give up life in rural Massachusetts and move to Hollywood - because there are no good schools for his handicapped son in California.

The ADAPTATION star has called the Boston area home after marrying his wife MARIANNE, a native of the state, and he insists it's the best place for his kid.

He says, "Our son is severely disabled, and New York and New Jersey didn't have schools that wanted to deal with a multiple handicapped child in a regular.

"My wife found that Boston, thank God, was a little bit farther ahead than other states in what they call mainstreaming children with disabilities.

"Marianne's family was there, so we were surrounded by her extended family and friends that she grew up with."
