Chris Brown's father has expressed his disapproval over his son's reignited romance with Rihanna.

The singer dad Clinton previously urged his son to stay away from the Umbrella hitmaker following the infamous 2009 bust-up which left Brown with an assault conviction, and now he has spoken out against their revived romance.

Clinton insists the two singers are both too wild to be in a relationship together.

He tells Britain's The Sun, "I really didn't want him and Rihanna back together because of the scrutiny and because they are two individuals who are whimsical. You don't have the balance. You have to have a balance in a relationship. You have to have someone who is spontaneous, but you also need someone who is more grounded and logical."

However, Clinton admits he can't tell his son what to do, adding, "At the end of the day, Chris makes the decision. Even if I gathered a bunch of people with signs and said, 'Stay away from Rihanna, stay away,' Chris will do what Chris wants to do. That's his choice and I want him to be happy..."

Clinton also reveals he would like to see the star date a more "wholesome" girlfriend, like his No Air collaborator Jordin Sparks: "I personally liked Jordin Sparks. She's a wholesome young lady, very pretty. Of course a lot of times we don't want conservative types."

The stars revived their relationship last year (12) and went public as a couple in January (13).
