Real estate agent Scott Weier claims he recently closed a deal for the Wall Street star to purchase three homes all next to one another in the popular retirement community of Rosarito, in Baja, California, and Charlie is already in the process of moving.

"It's just a humble little three-bedroom house, around 2,700 square feet. It wasn't too expensive," Weier told

"He told me he's planning on living here full time, he's tired of the rat race of the United States and his life the way it is. He wants to do something a bit different. He's looking for a change. Compared to what he has in Los Angeles, it's very humble and simple.

"He's certainly not coming here to impress anyone with a huge mansion on the ocean."

Charlie, who went public with his HIV-positive diagnosis in November (15), is said to have paid around $1 million (£684,000) for the triple purchase, with plans to live in the middle house and use the others to keep neighbours away and maintain his privacy.

Weier believes Charlie, 50, is looking to tone down his reputation as a hard-party loving star in light of his illness, and Rosarito, which has 140,000 residents, will be perfect for the actor.

"I've got to know him a bit through doing this transaction and he's come to my house and had dinner," the estate agent continued. "He's serious about it. He's said to me more than once, 'I envy you. I'd rather have a simple life, a family and be laid back without people hounding me all day.'

"He's looking for things to be much quieter and simple. He's a nice guy. From what I can tell he's learned a lot from his mistakes and he wants not just to change his address but to change his life.

"He doesn't drink as much anymore, and he even joked about that with me. When I've been with him he's only had one beer or so. He wants normalcy and peace."

The actor, who put two of his three Beverly Hills homes on the market in November (15), has yet to comment on the report of his relocation, but he recently filed court papers seeking to drastically reduce the $55,000 (£38,000) a month he pays in child support to ex-wife Brooke Mueller, the mother of his twin sons, claiming he no longer has the finances to cover the fee after skipping a number of payments.

He is also obligated to hand over child support to another ex, Denise Richards, but it's not clear if he's delinquent in payments to the actress, too.
