Former CATATONIA singer Cerys Matthews hates going to the theatre because the overly-dramatic faces pulled by the actors make her squirm.

The Welsh singer, who recently launched her solo career with album COCKAHOOP, has disliked nearly every play she's ever seen - but is adamant to keep going until she finds something she enjoys.

She says, "I haven't had much of a success rate with the theatre. I saw SHIRLEY VALENTINE and couldn't bear it; I was taken to see CATS and I couldn't bear it; and I went to see a SAMUEL BECKETT play and walked out.

"It's the theatrical acting that puts me off. If you're not familiar with all that face-pulling, it comes as a bit of a shock. But I'm determined to persevere with it."
