Some 900 members of the Writers Guild of America West staged a rally at a park adjacent to CBS in Los Angeles Wednesday, then, chanting "Writers united, we will not be divided," marched to the network complex itself in what the guild called a build-up to 2007 contract negotiations. The current contract expires in October 2007. The demonstration was timed to coincide with the season premiere of the reality series America's Next Top Model on the CW Network, a 50-50 partnership between CBS and Warner Bros. At Wednesday's rally, WGA West President Patric Verrone declared: "I announce today the WGA doctrine for the 21st century -- that every piece of media with a moving image on the screen or a recorded human voice must have a writer. And every writer must have a WGA contract. For our friends in the press, that was the sound bite."
