Award-winning U.S. newsman Bruce Morton has died at the age of 83.

The correspondent passed away at his Washington, D.C. home on Thursday (04Sep14).

Morton began his career at ABC News in London in 1962. In 1964, he moved to CBS, where he remained until 1993, when he took a position at CNN.

A statement from Cnn Washington bureau chief Sam Feist reads, "All of us who worked with Bruce knew him to be a reporter's reporter; a man who cared deeply about journalism, politics and people.

"Bruce could tell a story like no other, as he effortlessly weaved facts, emotion and history into every one of his news stories."

Morton was the recipient of six News and Documentary Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award.
