Aside from the victory of the New Orleans Saints in Sunday's Super Bowl game, the biggest surprise of the night came in a 15-second CBS promotional spot for Late Show with David Letterman, which included Oprah Winfrey and, amazingly enough, Jay Leno. In the spot, the three are seen watching the game and munching on chips, when Letterman remarks grumpily to Oprah, "This is the worst Super Bowl party ever." Leno then responds, "He's just saying that because I'm here." Letterman mimics him. Oprah looks helpless. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Letterman producer Rob Burnett described the numerous preliminary rounds of talks at CBC and NBC that allowed the spot to be shot -- and the efforts made to keep it secret -- efforts, he said, "that would make the CIA proud." Despite Letterman's jibes at Leno last month during the Conan O'Brien fiasco, "there was no frostiness," Burnett maintained. "We were focused on trying to execute the joke. ... The bottom line is, if you're a comedian and you have the chance to do something funny in front of 100 million people, you should do it."
