The Los Angeles Planning Commission today (Thursday) was due to take up consideration of a controversial project to tear down the old CBS radio and TV studios at "Columbia Square" and replace the building with massive commercial and residential skyscraper (what conservation activists are calling a "Doomscraper.") The building was the site of most CBS network radio broadcasts in the 1930s and '40s and in 1950 was the site of the first live network TV series to originate from the West Coast, The Ed Wynn Show. (It was shown via "kinescope recording" on the East Coast a week later.)
