For the first time since the 1991-92 season, CBS has wrapped up the current (2012-13) season with the lead in the key 18-49 age group. It also led among total viewers as well, as it had in 10 of the previous 11 years, its average boosted this year by its coverage of the Super Bowl game, which drew 108.7 million viewers. However, the network pointed out that it would have won in the total-viewer category even without The Game. Fox, the usual winner of the 18-49 demographic -- it has placed first for the past eight years -- slipped to second place this season largely because of weakened ratings for its American Idol. Indeed the show's numbers were down a startling 21 percent from last year. The most-watched program for the season was CBS's NCIS, which averaged 21.3 million viewers. It even edged out NBC's Sunday Night Football with 21.0 million viewers.
