CBS may have been shut out of the top three spots in the Nielsen weekly ratings again last week, but it captured 13 of the next 17 places and ended up as the top-rated network among total adults and adults 18-49. The NO. 1 show of the week was again ABC's Monday-night edition of Dancing With The Stars , followed by the Wednesday and Thursday installments of Fox's American Idol . (In a ratings anomaly, Wednesday's Idol actually captured 1.6 million more total viewers than Monday's Dancing , and it was the top-rated show of the week among viewers 18-49.) But CBS was close behind with fourth-place NCIS and Monday's coverage of the NCAA's men's basketball championship. Ratings continued to decline for all the nightly newscasts following a surge during the outbreak of rebellions in The Middle East and the Japanese earthquake and tsunami disasters. NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams remained on top with 8.4 million viewers, ahead of ABC World News with Diane Sawyer with 7.8 million. The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric remained a distant third with 5.4 million viewers. For the week, CBS averaged a 6.8 rating and an 11 share. ABC placed second with a 4.8/8. Fox followed with an average 4.6/7, while NBC remained far behind with an average 3.3/7.
