NBC also remained a strong contender with its summertime hit America's Got Talent , which captured three positions in the top-ten list, including No. 1. Among the evening newscasts, ABC World News with Diane Sawyer again narrowed the gap between itself and first-place NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams as it averaged 6.94 million viewers to Nightly 's 7.68 million. The CBS Evening News with Scott Peley continued to trail with 5.57 million viewers. Among total adults, CBS led with a weekly average of a 3.9 rating and a 7 share. BC was second with a 3.2/6, followed by Fox with an average 3.1/6. ABC trailed with a 2.9/5.
