ABC's three-hour telecast of the CMA Music Festival averaged 8.19 million viewers Monday night and a 2.0 rating/6 share among 18-49-year-old viewers -- up a whopping 33 percent from a year ago. The special peaked in the 9:00 p.m. hour with 9 million viewers but fell to 7.5 million in the 10:00 hour as it competed with CBS's hit summer drama Under the Dome. That program saw its numbers slip slightly to 10.14 million viewers. Both the continued Time Warner Cable/CBS Corp. feud, which blacked out CBS programs in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas, and the solid performance of the CMAs No Doubt played in role in the slippage.
