Carrie Underwood, the 27-year-old American singer-songwriter, scooped the top award at last night's American County Music Awards in Las Vegas, reports the Washington Post. Underwood was named 'Artist of the Year', just eight months after she won the same honour at the Academy Of Country Music Awards in April.
The 'American Idol' champion thanked her fans during her acceptance speech, saying, "We have had the most amazing year out on the road but we wouldn't be doing anything if there weren't people out there sitting in that audience". Underwood, who scooped five other awards at the ceremony at Las Vegas' MGM Grand, added, "So to everybody that came out to see us or anybody else out here, you guys are awesome for supporting us like you do. God bless the fans". The singer-songwriter also took home the coveted 'Album of the Year' award for her critically acclaimed record 'Play On'.
Elsewhere, Lady Antebellum took home four awards, and Easton Corbin was triumphant in three categories including 'Breakthrough Artist of the Year'. Brad Paisley was voted 'Male Artist of the Year', and Blake Shelton and the evening's host Trace Adkins won 'Music Video of the Year'.
