Carrie Fisher, the 54-year-old actress best known for playing 'Princess Leia' in Star Wars, has begun her quest to lose 30 pounds after being named the new spokesperson for diet company 'Jenny Craig'. The actress and author weighed 180 pounds at her heaviest and she insists that the "hurtful comments" of bloggers has persuaded her to start shedding the pounds.
It was announced on Wednesday (13th January 2011) that Fisher will join Jason Alexander and Valerie Bertinelli as the celebrity faces of the weight loss company. Fisher, who has already lost 12 pounds since starting the programme herself after Thanksgiving, said, "A day comes when you can no longer face not wanting to leave the house because you don't like the way you look. I haven't been able to enjoy what otherwise is a good part of my life because so much of what's on my mind is about my weight". The 54-year-old spoke about how reading humiliating comments on Internet blogs encouraged her to begin losing weight, she said, "I look on the Internet and they say, 'Whatever happened to Carrie Fisher? She used to be so hot and now she looks like Elton John. I was really hurt".
The actress caused a stir after wearing a 'metal bikini' in STAR WARS and she told US Weekly, "I would like to have the option of getting back into the metal bikini. I won't be doing that, but I'd like the option".
