Carly Rae Jepsen knew 'Call Me Maybe' would be a hit when her aunt started jumping up and down on the couch to it.

The singer realised her track - which has been a mega hit worldwide and reached number one in over 20 countries - was ''extra special'' after seeing the reaction from her family the first time she played it to them.

Speaking ahead of the MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) - where she is up for three awards and will perform tomorrow (11.11.12) - she told BANG Showbiz: ''The song was really enjoyable to record, so that was always a bit of a thrill, but I didn't know that it was that extra special song until I played it for my family.

''My aunt, who is a little bit of a tomboy, a hockey player, ended up jumping on the couch and dancing, and it was at that moment I thought, 'Hmm, there may be something to this one.'''

Also performing at the awards ceremony tomorrow are indie pop group Fun., who are also up for three trophies. Whilst they don't think they stand a chance of winning the Best New category against boy band One Direction, they want them to win the award because they are such good people.

The band's Andrew Dost said: ''I think we're going to lose! I think they're going to crush us, but it's an honour to be crushed by a group of such nice guys who are having a great time.''

The MTV EMAs, hosted by Heidi Klum, will be broadcast live tomorrow night from 8pm Central European Time and feature performances from Pitbull, The Killers and Psy.
