Generous rocker Carlos Santana is donating $2 million (GBP1.25 million) to a charity set up to combat the spread of AIDS in South Africa.
The SMOOTH guitarist has just wrapped up a 23 city American tour and its proceeds are going to ARTISTS FOR A NEW SOUTH AFRICA (ANSA).
The charity has long been dedicated to "furthering democracy and equality in South Africa" - but in recent years, the non-profit organisation has concentrated on the worsening AIDS crisis.
But free-spirited Carlos cannot confirm the exact amount of money raised.
He says, "I don't know man, I'm not an accountant. I'm with the notes. I'm not with numbers.
"The disease is going to go away, the disease of AIDS, and corruption in politicians and religious people. It's the same sickness."15/07/2003 22:47
