The former Ally MCBeal star was listed as a series regular for the first instalment of the superhero show, but executive producer Andrew Kreisberg announced on Monday (01Aug16) the actress will be taking on a smaller part in the show and will be billed as a recurring character moving forward.

Kreisberg said in a statement: "Supergirl wouldn't be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant. We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen."

Multiple reports suggest Flockhart's decision to appear in less episodes is due to the fact production is moving from the actress' home base in Los Angeles to Vancouver, Canada.

Season two of Supergirl, which stars Melissa Benoist in the titular role, kicks off on 10 October (16) on America's The CW network for the first time, after executives decided to move the show from its sister network CBS.
