Buffalo Springfield bassist and co-founder BRUCE PALMER has died after suffering a heart attack. He was 58.

Palmer - born in Nova Scotia, Canada - died on 1 October (04) in Belleville, Ontario, but his death was not announced until a week later.

Palmer played in Canadian bands with Rick James and future members of STEPPENWOLF before he, Neil Young and Dewey Martin got together with STEPHEN STILLS and RICHIE FURAY to form Buffalo Springfield in 1966.

The hugely influential FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH rockers, who only recorded three albums together, are credited with inspiring groups as varied as THE EAGLES and Big Star.
