ROXY MUSIC singer Bryan Ferry has one unfulfilled ambition in his otherwise successful rock career - he wasn't born black.
The 57-year-old LET'S STICK TOGETHER star has achieved musical success beyond his wildest dreams after a humble upbringing in English industrial town Newcastle-Upon-Tyne - but as a kid he was convinced his colour would hold him back.
Ferry explains, "I always desperately wanted to be black. I wanted so much to be Otis Redding.
"It was a source of despair and endless disappointment to me that I was an English white kid, and that my voice just wouldn't go deep.
"I used to tell myself that I was somehow spiritually black: that the impoverished North-east was the English ghetto. I fancied that my only way out was by singing."01/09/2003 21:32
