Bryan Adams and Celine Dion have been confirmed as the star attractions at the Canadian LIVE 8 concert on 2 July (05) - but organisers have scotched rumours the Rolling Stones will also appear.

The Brown Sugar hitmakers headlined a 2003 SARS benefit concert in Toronto, but they will not be making a return to North America to draw global attention to poverty in Africa.

Promoter MICHAEL COHL says, "I never asked them to play this show. If they were playing, they'd be playing in London. They belong in London."

Adams and Dion, who will appear via satellite from Las Vegas, will be joined by BARE NAKED LADIES, BLUE RODEO, The Tragically Hip, GORDON LIGHTFOOT, Motley Crue and Deep Purple.

An estimated 35,000 tickets will be made available for the charity fundraiser which will take place in Barrie, Ontario - 92 kilometres (57 miles) north of the Canadian capital.
