Handouts from superstars Bruce Springsteen and Lou Reed have handed a New York rock landmark a stay of execution.

THE BOTTOM LINE club now have another month to raise the $190,000 (GBP118,750) they owe landlords NEW YORK UNIVERSITY (NYU) - after the stars, who started their careers playing at the small club, made donations.

A New York judge was so touched by the club's support gave managers a month to sort out their differences with NYU.

The club is now planning a series of benefit shows to raise the lacking funds and satellite radio network SIRIUS has offered to make up any difference in back rent.
