Tv Superman Dean Cain has nothing but praise for ex-girlfriend Brooke Shields' "raw" new memoir, revealing her account of losing her virginity to the actor was "insightful".

Cain admits he has read sections of the book, There Was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me, and was stunned by his former love's account of their first full-on sexual experience.

In the book, the actress reveals she was a 22-year-old student at Princeton University when she slept with Cain for the first time, and was so freaked out by the intimate moment, she "jumped" out of bed.

She explained, "I was buck naked, streaking down a hallway and running as if I had just stolen someone's wallet."

She recalled Cain chasing after her and throwing a comforter around his college sweetheart, and the memory has given the actor a new perspective of the night in question.

He tells U.S. breakfast show Today, "Brooke is a wonderful, wonderful girl... (and the book is) really insightful and raw."

But he insists the night of passion wasn't a quick fling for him - he took it very seriously.

Cain adds, "I don't think a girl loses her virginity. They give it... I mean, we were in love."

Shields has since insisted she is grateful to have had such a caring partner to experience her first time with, and hopes her own girls are treated just as well when they come of age.

During an interview with U.S. talk show host Wendy Williams on Thursday (04Dec14), she says, "He was so amazing... I have two daughters. I hope that they have a guy that great, seriously."
