Actress Brooke Shields is heading to New York City to join the acclaimed Broadway revival of WONDERFUL TOWN.

Late next month (SEP04), Shields will replace Donna Murphy as writer RUTH SHERWOOD, a young woman from Ohio determined to score success in New York in the 1930s.

The musical was first done on Broadway in 1953 with Rosalind Russell in the leading role. The revival opened in November (03) and won a 2004 TONY AWARD for best choreography.

Shields has worked on Broadway before, taking over for ROSIE O'DONNELL as RIZZO in the long-running revival of GREASE, and she later played SALLY BOWLES in the ROUNDABOUT THEATRE COMPANY production of Cabaret.
