The Clueless star passed away in December 2009 at the age of 32, and officials ruled her death was caused by pneumonia, anaemia and excessive use of prescription medications.

Rumours that an investigation was to be re-opened into her death began after L.A. county assistant chief coroner Ed Winter told E! News, "We would have to have direct evidence. In all honesty, it would take something like a confession. Something connecting somebody with it."

However, Winter now seems to have retracted his comments, and told Entertainment Tonight on Friday (25Mar16), "At this point we have nothing that points us to reopening the investigation. If there was additional evidence or someone came forward then we would direct them to law enforcement."

Murphy's tragic story continued after her death, with the sudden passing of her British screenwriter husband Simon Monjack. He died in May 2010, just months after his wife's death, at the couple's home in the Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles.

The cause of his death was acute pneumonia and severe anaemia.

In 2014, Lifetime aired a controversial biopic about Murphy, which was widely criticised. The film's stars, Amanda Fuller and Sherilyn Fenn, said at the time, "We did everything based on public record."

Fuller added, "How people choose to perceive it, interpret it, that's their business."
