Britt Ekland was so overwhelmed watching the eagerly-waited biopic on her late husband Peter Sellers, she's labelled the exclusive screening the most emotional experience of her life.

The Swedish actress - who until recently had angrily objected to the project - admits she was close to tears during the world premiere of THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS at the Cannes Film Festival last night (22MAY04).

The 61-year-old says, "I was completely surprised when they said CHARLIZE THERON was playing me, but she did it so well. She was fantastic in the movie and I admit the resemblance was uncanny. I was very happy with the portrayal - she looked sensational.

"The movie was completely original and I found watching it an incredibly emotional and moving experience. The actor Geoffrey Rush is a genius. He played Peter so well it was very emotional for me."

Ekland had threatened the film's makers with legal action if she was misrepresented by MONSTER star Theron - and previously described the casting as "nonsense" - but accepted the actress' invitation to be "her date" at the premiere.

The movie is released later this summer (04) and tells the story of THE PINK PANTHER star's turbulent private life and his obsession with model SOPHIA LAUREN.
