Pop singer Britney Spears has blamed her decision to marry childhood pal Jason Alexander in Las Vegas on her "silliness".

The ME AGAINST THE MUSIC beauty stunned fans when she wed Alexander in a reportedly alcohol-fuelled and spontaneous ceremony, which was annulled just 55 hours later.

But Britney - who admits she is becoming more rebellious - puts the incident down to her inability to take responsibility for her actions.

In an interview with American TV network E!, she says, "It was me being silly, being rebellious, and not really taking the responsibility of what I was doing, you know? And after partying, you know, you really don't think about what you're doing. So it was one of those things that were really silly.

"I think I was running away from something, I didn't quite know what. And maybe it was past things that I hadn't dealt with, you know, I had to put a head on it and be like, 'Look. It's time to really look at the situation and look at yourself and figure things out and stop running."

And now the 22-year-old superstar insists she has exorcised her demons.

She adds, "I'm still figuring out myself and learning every day. But I think I'm more in a good place. I like being alone, which is good I think. You know, I love reading books. I'm really a quiet kind of person right now. And so it's cool to be back and feel like yourself again."
