A parenting book by the mother of troubled singer Britney Spears has been delayed indefinitely, her publisher has confirmed.

Lynne Spears was to publish Pop Culture Mom: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World on Mother's Day next year, but the book's release has been shelved in the wake of Britney's 16-year-old sister Jamie Lynn's pregnancy announcement earlier this week.

Lindsey Nobles, a spokesperson for Christian book publisher Thomas Nelson Inc, confirmed the memoir was to be postponed but declined to comment on whether the delay was related to the shock revelation.

"I can tell you that we are standing behind Lynne and supporting her decision to be with her family at this time," Nobles told the Associated Press.

Jamie Lynn, the star of Nickelodeon television show Zoey 101, confirmed on Tuesday that she is expecting her first child at the age of 16.

The teenager told OK! magazine that she was three months into her pregnancy and was shocked when doctors confirmed the news.

She added that the father of the child was her long-term boyfriend Casey Aldridge and that she had waited for two weeks before informing her family.

The star also revealed that she was scared at the time and needed time to consider how to move forward.

Jamie Lynn told the magazine: "It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected. I was in complete and total shock and so was he."

Lynne Spears admitted she was stunned by the news.

She told OK!: "I didn't believe it because Jamie Lynn's always been so conscientious. She's never late for her curfew. I was in shock. I mean, this is my 16-year-old baby."

Lynne's elder daughter Britney is currently embroiled in a long-running dispute with her ex-husband Kevin Federline for the custody of their two children, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

The judge ruling in the case has previously criticised the Toxic singer for being a "habitual, frequent and continuous" user of alcohol and controlled substances and ordered to her to undergo regular drug tests and attend parenting sessions.
