Britney Spears' father JAMIE has addressed allegations he punched her former companion SAM LUTFI in the chest last year (08) - insisting he should be allowed to use "necessary force" to protect his daughter.
Jamie and his wife Lynne Spears have publicly blamed Lutfi for the series of emotional crises that lead to the Toxic hitmaker losing custody of her two sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline in 2007.
Lutfi, who is now banned from contacting the star under a restraining order, filed a defamation lawsuit against the pop star and her family in February (09), accusing the singer and her parents of damaging his reputation by allegedly leaking false information about his conduct to the press.
The legal file also contained claims that Lutfi was assaulted by Jamie Spears as he tried to keep him away from the star outside her Los Angeles home last year (08).
But Spears senior has hit back at the allegations, filing his own legal papers at an L.A. court on Thursday (14May09) in which he maintains he should be "privileged to use force in and about the matter complained".
Although Jamie Spears does not admit assaulting Lutfi, he claims "he was provoked" during the incident.
And the document, obtained by TMZ.com, goes on to insist the courts should acknowledge that "any necessary force may be used to protect from wrongful injury the person or property of oneself, or a wife, husband, child, parent or other relative or member of one's family."
Lutfi is seeking compensation over the incident. The case will go before a judge on 8 March, 2010.
