Pop star Britney Spears has topped the U.S. album charts for the first time in more than five years.
The singer has shifted more than half a million copies of her LP Circus in its first week on sale to give her the number one spot in the Billboard 200.
Spears scores the second biggest debut week of the year for a female artist, behind Taylor Swift. In first week sales figures, Circus outsold records by Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus and Madonna.
