Britney Spears only agreed to annul her marriage after her mother reportedly "put a lot of pressure on her" after learning the singer had not signed a pre-nuptial agreement.
LYNNE, who arrived in Las Vegas hours after her daughter's 5am marriage to Jason Alexander on Saturday (03JAN04), is said to have "gone crazy" after learning the news, and at first tried to make Britney's new husband sign away his rights to the pop star's fortune.
A friend tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "Jason refused. He wasn't after Britney's money, but he didn't like the way he was being treated."
The pal adds that Britney was "deadly serious" about her wedding to her childhood friend - and only acquiesced to seek an annulment after she was forced to, even though the OOPS!...I DID IT AGAIN star claims she and her husband themselves realised they had made a mistake.
They say, "Britney didn't really want to have an annulment but her mum and the advisers put a lot of pressure on her."
The pair filed for an annulment late on Saturday, which was then finalised by the courts on Tuesday (06JAN04)08/01/2004 02:25
