Britney Spears has apparently hired a private investigator to help her win her child custody battle with former husband Kevin Federline.
The Baby One More Time star temporarily lost custody of her children earlier in the trial after the court heard testimony about her behaviour from former bodyguards, the singer's entourage and health staff at a rehabilitation clinic she attended.
Asked about Spears' reported decision to dig up details about her former spouse, Federline's attorney Mark Kaplan told a press conference he felt the move would not improve her chances in the case.
"I think that if that is what they need to do, or have to do I don't think it will, in anyway, be a good expenditure of funds. But I can't stop that from happening."
The lawyer added his client would not be worried about his behaviour and would not act any differently.
"I don't think he would be concerned about it, and I don't think he has to change anything he is doing in order to address that," Kaplan added.
Recently a court banned Spears, who has had legal troubles over her motoring skills, from driving her children. The star has now hired a driver to chauffeur her and her two sons.
Commenting on the ruling, Kaplan stated he was in favour of the move as he claimed it was in the best interests of the children that Spears was not behind the wheel.
Asked whether the 26-year-old pop princess may have to spend the Thanksgiving holiday alone as she is only permitted to visit her children twice a week, Kaplan added: "I think that nobody wants to be celebrating the holidays without their kids. I'm sure that will be worked out in a way that makes sense for everybody."
In the past, Federline's legal team have requested emergency court sessions over reports about Spears' poor driving and her failure to meet requirements for drug tests.
Previously the judge hearing the legal battle described the singer as a "habitual, frequent and continuous" user of controlled substances and alcohol and ordered her to meet a variety of conditions before the restoration of her custody arrangements.
