Britney Spears' management company has ended its association with the star, citing "current circumstances" as the reason for the decision.
The news comes after the Baby One More Time star's lawyer, who was representing her in a custody battle with her ex-husband, also chose to end her links with Spears.
In a statement the singer's former management company said: "It saddens us to confirm media reports that we have terminated our professional relationship with Britney Spears.
"We believe Britney is enormously talented, and has made a terrific record. But current circumstances have prevented us from properly doing our job. We wish Britney the best."
The star, whose latest album will be released in November, was universally ridiculed for her performance at the MTV video music awards. The singer was criticised for a "zombie-like" and lack-lustre performance of her single Gimme More at the show.
The Firm, that was previously in charge of her career, did not specify the reasons for cutting ties with the pop princess.
The singer's fragile reputation took another hit after it was claimed she smeared a plate of gourmet food over her face while dining at a plush LA hotel.
Reports say that the troubled 25-year-old was given a lifetime ban from the exclusive Chateau Marmont, a regular haunt for Hollywood's glitterati.
