Britney Spears is reported to have been offered a staggering $10 million deal to become a judge on the 2012 series of X factor in the USA. Rolling Stone reports that Simon Cowell is alleged to have laid the offer on the table to Spears for the second season of the TV talent show.
Cowell is keen to win the television ratings war, which pitches X Factor against the likes of The Voice, American Idol and the latest newcomer to the genre, Duets. After last season's viewer ratings disappointed the music mogul, he fired most of the stars involved (Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones all suffered the chop, somewhat unceremoniously). With a globally renowned star such as Spears on board, he'll certainly set the show in good stead for inching ahead of its rivals. Spears seems to have put her troubled times behind her and Simon Cowell was quick to acknowledge her celebrity pulling power in a recent interview: "I'm fascinated by Britney," he said. "The fact that she's one of the most talked about - not just pop stars, but people - in the world today means that you've got this star power. She's still hot, she's still having hit records, and she's still controversial. There's a reason for that."
It is yet to be confirmed whether or not Britney will accept the offer and speculation is still circulating as to who the remaining judge will be, as well as the two hosts that Cowell is looking for. Janet Jackson is one of the celebrities rumoured to be taking a judging role but again, no firm plans have been revealed. The next season of X Factor is scheduled to air later this year.
