Britney Spears turns 30 today (December 2, 2011), the former teen-star still at the very highest level of fame well over a decade after her sensational breakthrough in 1998 with the US platinum Number 1 single 'Baby One More Time'. Aged just 16 at the time, few would've expected that Spears would go on to release seven studio albums all of which bar one topped the US Billboard charts, selling more than 100 million records worldwide. The artist's latest album, 'Femme Fatale' was released in March of this year and was another US Number One platinum success and led off by the chart topping single 'Hold It Against Me'.
It hasn't always been plain sailing for Spears by any means; indeed the star has had a somewhat troubled life on occasion, with a bizarre 55-hour marriage to Jason Alexander in 2004 followed by a second marriage that same year to American dancer Kevin Federline. She had two children with Federline, but divorced him in 2007 and that same year caused real concern when admitting herself to rehab after shaving off her own hair with shears - things getting worse in 2008 when she was admitted to a psychiatric ward and lost custody of her kids to Federline.
How refreshing it is then to see Spears in 2011 touring regularly and still churning out albums that hit the very tops of the charts around the world. Currently on tour at the moment, the star has the night off on her birthday, no doubt we'll be hearing all about it tomorrow.
