The lawyer representing Britney Spears in her child custody battle with her ex-husband has asked to be taken off the case.
Spears' lawyer Sorrell Trope has filed documents seeking the court's permission to end his professional links with the star.
The Baby One More Time star's attorney said a communication breakdown had taken place that had made "further representation of her interests impossible".
If the court permits The Firm to be taken off the case, Spears will have to search for her fourth team of legal representatives since the beginning of the court case with Kevin Federline. The singer and her former spouse are involved in legal proceedings to determine the time each one of them spends with their two children.
Earlier in the case, a court in Los Angeles ended Spears joint custody arrangement after she missed a drugs test and media reports raised questions about her lifestyle.
The 26-year-old pop princess recently missed a deposition citing illness and anxiety as reasons for her absence. Federline's lawyers have said a new evidentiary hearing would take place soon. Spears is currently entitled to visit her children twice a week.
