Britney Spears is said to have fallen asleep while attending a New Year's Eve party in Las Vegas that she was hosting.
Reports claimed that the 25-year-old singer had collapsed at Pure nightclub after drinking too much and had to be carried out by her bodyguards.
But her manager Larry Rudolph has dismissed the rumours, insisting that it was the late night, and not alcohol, that had taken its toll on Britney.
"By about one o'clock, she was just done, so we took her out," Mr Rudolph told the Associated Press news agency. "She was not drunk. She was just tired and falling asleep."
Last month Britney posted a message on her website responding to criticism that she had been partying too much with A-list friends including Paris Hilton following her split from second husband Kevin Federline.
"I probably did take my new-found freedom a little too far," she admitted.
If her further comments are anything to go by then we'll be seeing a "new" Britney during the next 12 months, with promises of headlines due to "new music" rather than her nightclub antics.
