The TOXIC singer was the first choice to play the actor's love interest in the new movie, which would have meant a steamy sex scene with the boy she befriended on the children's TV show when she was just 12.
Gosling admits he was looking forward to working with his childhood pal, but he's happy MEAN GIRLS star Rachel McAdams eventually took the part when Spears rejected the role.
He says, "I'm sure it would've been a totally different movie.
"I hadn't seen her (Britney) since she was probably 12. She's grown up. She was really good, actually. She did a really nice job."
