The organisers of next year's Brit Awards (04) are hoping to ensure the nominations for the event are shrouded in secrecy - after information was leaked this year (03).

Instead of giving record companies advance notification of who is competing for the coveted gongs, the acts in contention will not be named until the official announcement is made.

The event will take place on 17 February next year (04) at Earls Court, London and will include a new category of Best Rock Act.

Nominations will be announced to the world's media on 12 January (04).
