The 49-year-old shared the news during an appearance on the Matt Cooper Show in Ireland on Friday (02Sep16).

"I have just started a journey with cancer, I'm afraid to say," he said. "It was a huge shock of course. It is the most bizarre thing.

"First of all, what I have is called rectal cancer. I said to my doctor, 'Could I have a more embarrassing form of cancer. Cancer in my bum, really?' At the same time, of course, he pointed out to me that there are plenty other worse places to get cancer."

The Belfast-born entertainer, who was discovered by the Spice Girls' manager Simon Fuller, made his cancer diagnosis announcement as he helped launch Today FM's Dare to Care fundraising campaign for the Irish Cancer Society.
