Veteran British actor Brian Blessed stunned diners during a business conference in London after he clashed with a guest who criticised his cult film Flash Gordon, according to a new report.
The 74-year-old star, who has been in showbusiness for 40 years, was hired as a celebrity after-dinner speaker at a lavish bash for Britain's Federation of Wholesale Distributors last week (25Nov10).
However, guests didn't get a chance to hear Blessed's trademark booming tones after he was reportedly embroiled in a bust-up with a businessman at his table who labelled his sci-fi classic "c**p".
According to Britain's Daily Mail, a furious Blessed grabbed the man, shouting, "I am not standing for this!" before storming out of the venue without fulfilling his speaking duties, for which he had charged a $9,750 (£6,500) fee.
The unnamed man who made the comment tells the publication, "All I said was that I did not rate Flash Gordon, that I thought it was c**p.
"Blessed got upset, grabbed me and walked out. I honestly don't know why. I certainly did not call him any names. I had my group managing director sitting next to me."
A fellow guest at the event says, "He seemed to be in a very good mood all evening and then he just flipped."
