The star is currently enjoying the success of his first holiday album, Glow, and he thought he'd really get into the festive spirit by treating himself to a huge tree.

But once he got the evergreen home and started to decorate it, he realised he wasn't feeling very Christmas-y any more.

"I want to maximise Christmas because I love it so much," he told Taste of Country. "I wanted a huge tree. We go get it, put it in my house and within two days I started sneezing and getting sick.

"I’m allergic to Christmas trees! I had to get rid of it and get a fake one and I was so bummed."

But Brett was still determined to make sure his home smelled of the season, adding, "I have scented candles to make up for that."
