Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt is to make his first western, based on ROBERT HANSEN's novel THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD.

Pitt, 40, has been attracted to the project by Australian film-maker Andrew Dominik, who the FIGHT CLUB star has wanted to work with since seeing his critically acclaimed 2000 movie CHOPPER.

It is believed Pitt - whose company is co-producing the project - will play ROBERT FORD, a member of James' outlaw gang, who narrates Hansen's book.
