An ambitious plan to elevate U2 star Bono's `dead' body over the crowds at the Irish group's live shows was scrapped because it was "too Bon Jovi."

The rock star came up with the idea of playing a dead cowboy who would be flown around arenas and stadiums on a giant stetson - high above the heads of fans.

He says, "We thought it was very avant-garde to fly me in a cowboy hat over the audience as a dead cowboy.

"We thought it would be a one-off event and it would be historically remembered.
