U2 frontman Bono has been recognised for his humanitarian efforts with an honorary Doctor in Laws degree from Dublin, Ireland's prestigious TRINITY COLLEGE.

The Irish rocker was one of five people to receive an honorary degree on 11 July (03), alongside this year's PhD graduates from Trinity, in a traditional ceremony which is still conducted in Latin.

But the BEAUTIFUL DAY singer decided to buck the centuries-long custom of putting on the traditional mortar board headwear - opting instead to tuck it under his arm.

He explained, "My head has swollen. Such is the treatment I have got from the college."

Bono's degree was awarded to him in recognition of his humanitarian work on behalf of world poverty and Third World debt relief.
