U2 frontman Bono has been put forward for the prestigious political job of president of the World Bank.

The Irish rocker's dedicated charity work and tireless campaigning to stamp out third world debt has inspired American newspaper THE LOS ANGELES TIMES to suggest him as a potential candidate for the high-powered role, which became available in May (04).

The publication's editor ANDRES MARTINEZ gushes, "Don't be fooled by the wraparound sunglasses and the excess hipness. Bono is deeply versed in the issues afflicting the least-developed nations of the world."
