Campaigning U2 frontman Bono is urging US president George W Bush to donate an extra one per cent of America's federal budget to the world's poor.

The ELEVATION superstar quoted from Christian, Jewish and Islamic texts in a bid to persuade the US leader to increase the aid budget at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC yesterday (02FEB06).

Bono says, "Where you live should no longer determine whether you live."

Bush praised the singer as a "doer" but failed to agree to the $26 billion (GBP14.6 billion) plea.
