The songs of seventies pop group Boney M have been transformed for a new London musical named DADDY COOL.
The Caribbean four-piece left to fame in the 1970s with a succession of dance floor classics, including RIVERS OF BABYLON, RASPUTIN, PAINTER MAN and Daddy Cool.
The group's producer and songwriter Frank Farian has teamed up with theatre impresario Robert Mackintosh to launch the $5.4 million (GBP3 million) West End musical, which centres of gang rivalry in east London.
Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha, who is a creative associate for the production, says, "Some people think Boney M were fantastic, some think they were naff. But Frank Farian was responsible for more hits than people might think."
Former So Solid Crew rapper HARVEY, talent show contestant JAVINE and former EASTENDERS soap actress MICHELLE COLLINS star in the show, which begins in the British capital's Shaftesbury Theatre in April (06).
