Stars of the Indian music and film industry have been raised by tax officials after reports suggested celebrities were not disclosing their earnings to the government.

Bombay Dreams composer Ar Rahman and actors VIKRAM, VIVEK and TRISHA were among the 20 stars who were forced to open their homes to over 300 officials in Chennai (Madras) on Wednesday (26OCT05).

Santosh Datta, Chief Income Tax Commissioner for the city, explains, "(The raids were) basically to unearth unaccounted money.

"We (the department) acted on the basis of information and the whole process began about two months ago."

The residences of composers Yuvan Sankar Raja and Harris Jairaj were also raided.
