British comedian and television host Bob Monkhouse has died at the age of 75.

The veteran star of stage and screen had been battling prostate cancer for more than two years, and died peacefully at home in Bedfordshire, England this morning (29DEC03) with his wife JACKIE at his side.

His manager PETER PRITCHARD says, "He was respected by all the other comedians because he was dedicated to his craft - he never stopped making people laugh.

"He's one of the bravest men I've met. He suffered very badly at times with it but he carried on.

"He was a total professional and one of the funniest men in the world."

Monkhouse was a household name in his native Britain, thanks to a long career as a comic, actor and game-show host. This March (03), he was honoured with the lifetime achievement award from the TELEVISION AND RADIO INDUSTRIES CLUB.

Both Monkhouse's sons died in tragic circumstances: GARY from cerebral palsy and SIMON from a heroin overdose. He leaves a daughter, ABIGAIL.
